Dear Parents,
Can you believe Halloween is Friday?! In my last newsletter I mentioned we are having a Halloween Party on Friday, October 31st. To ensure a smooth celebration, we ask for your help in these areas:
1. Costumes should be brought to school in a bag labeled with the student’s name. Ms. Spurrier and I will help the children change into their costumes at 10:30, so we are ready in time for the parade. Since we have 17 children to help, we will not be able to take the extra time to put on make-up for the children.
2. Wheeled shoes, roller blades, skateboards, etc. may not be brought to school. Swords and other weapons must be kept at home, as well.
3. The parade is set to start at 10:50. If you would like to come to our room at 10:45 for a quick group photo opportunity, please come on down. We will take our pictures at 10:45 and will be out the door for our parade at 10:50. A good place to see us walk by is in the office hallway. After the parade, we will come back to the classroom for our party.
4. Our party will end at 11:40, to give us time to pack up our belongings before buses. Many parents tend to attend this party. If you are planning on driving your child home, please write me a bus note. Party days are very hectic, and it’s helpful for me to have a list of who is getting picked up before dismissal.
Just a reminder, classroom party food must comply with these guidelines:
*Only individually wrapped food items in their original packaging may be provided. Ingredient lists must be provided.
*Products may not contain peanuts, almonds, walnuts, or any other nut or nut product and must be processed in a “nut-free” environment.
*Fruit and vegetable trays and boxed bakery items are not allowed.
Starting on Monday, November 3rd, Sprague School is collecting Halloween candy. This will be shared with service people overseas. If you send the candy in a bag, we’ll help your child walk it down to the bins by the front office. I think I’ve covered everything, but please let me know if you have additional questions.
Over the past week we’ve covered the following sounds: o, u, l, and the –ip word family. Short vowels are very tricky—we will be working on them throughout the year.
We added TO to our Word Wall. On Monday I’ll be sending home a list of our sight words that your child read to me. I circled the words he/she needs to review at home. Thanks for keeping up with everything we send home! I know it’s a lot!
We are still working on writing true stories during Writer’s Workshop. We’ll wrap this unit up next week. I look forward to sharing your child’s writing at conferences on November 24th and 25th. Directions on how to sign up for conferences will be sent to you soon.
In math we compared size, length, and weight of various objects. Three days a week parent volunteers come in to lead one of our math centers. It’s been so much fun sharing our classroom with you. Thanks for your help and time!
I hope you’re enjoying this beautiful weekend! Let’s hope for a weather repeat on Halloween.
Keep in touch,
Becky Clay
