Throughout the year the children will participate in math and literacy centers. (At Curriculum Night I'll be sending home a letter asking for parent volunteers during Center Time.) In order to teach the structure of centers, I put out various math manipulatives and blocks for the children to explore before using them as math tools later in the year. I broke the children up into five groups--each group visited a different station every day (geoboards, pattern blocks, decorating portfolio folder, blocks with animals, and unifix cubes).
